Positioning of goalkeeper during the game

The goalkeeper must not always keep on see the ball during the game, goalkeeper have to position himself according to the movement of the ball.

However, it is necessary to have reference point for determining the position of the goalkeeper, because the goalkeeper must instantaneously move his position according to the position of the ball on the pitch.

The following position method is most basic.  

The goalkeeper draw a hypothetical picture of himself the pitch into three equal parts.

If the opponent has the ball in the position of red A, the goalkeeper stand in the position of yellow A.

In case of red color B, stand in the position of yellow B,

red C  stands for yellow C, red D stands for yellow D.

If the opponent has the ball in attack 1/3 area.

In the opponent has a ball of red A, the goalkeeper watch the opponent’s movement in the position of yellow A. 

The goalkeeper prepare for a long pass to the space behind 

the defense.

If the opponent has a ball in the position of red B, C, it is placed in  yellow B and C and prepare with the opponent space pass.

In this area there is almost no shooting, so prepare for opponent long pass.

If the opponent has the ball middle 1/3 area.

If the opponent position is red A, the goalkeeper position is yellow A and prepare the opponent’s long pass.

If the opponent position is red B, the goalkeeper position is yellow B and prepare the opponent’s long pass and long shooting.

If the opponent position is red C,  

a veriety of situations such as direct shooting, penetrate pass, long cross, etc.

are prepared in the position of yellow C. 

If the opponent has the ball in defense 1/3 area.

This area is most dangerous area for the goalkeeper.

iIf the position of red A is position in yellow A, prepare 

for a cross or center pass.

If the opponent has a ball in the position of red B, C, it is placed in  yellow B and C and prepare with the opponent shooting and short pass.
