2016 COPA goal analysis and prepare long shot

This is the goal by long shot of the match between Paraguay and Colombia.

You look at the pictures and find out the reason for the lost goal.
It is an attacker's shooting area, 25m in distance and little off the front.

If you look at the position of the goalkeeper is in aheadt of the basic position.

The ball passes over the goalkeeper's head, but can not be handled by hand.

The gap between the goalkeeper's hand and the ball is wide.

Eventually,  he only just jumped and lost goal.

At the world competitions, the goals by long shooting was about 10%.
Most of the cause of lost goals by long shooting are positioning and set position wrong.

In the COPA competition, only two goals are lost by long shooting. (except direct free kick)

How to prepare
The first is accurate positioning.
You should not leave the basic position.( the red line below)

The goalkeeper come forward to reduce the left and right angle.
However, when the goalkeeper comes forward and positions himself, there is a space between goalkeeper and goal.
This space is not problem at close shooting like below.

A ball coming from a long distance can come over the head of the goalkeeper and enter the goal.

Second is set position.
Long shooting has time for the ball to come, so the goalkeeper should make the stance equal to the shoulder width and high set position.
The goalkeeper should never lower his set position and take a with stance.

I will speak again
Positioning and set position are most basic but also most important.

It is important to recognize your position and set position according to the shooting
distance through basic training as below.
I hope you will get used to your body with plenty of practice.

Goalkeepers who are well - versed in basic skills do not easy lost goal.
